Ain't Going Back to Barton Hollow--A Post on the Civil Wars

I have been waaaay out of the loop as of late because I haven’t been on the internet that much. I have been busy. Busy with what, I don’t know if I could say. Still. This post is long overdue and I intend to put an end to the blogging laziness!

The Civil War’s new self-titled album, The Civil Wars, came out on Tuesday, August 6th. I had originally thought it was going to be released on the 9th, which was a Friday. On Thursday, I learned that it had already come out in stores. So, on Saturday, when we made our library trip, I purchased the album.

Now, I didn’t know what to expect from this album. I had loved the last one to bits and I have probably listened to it over a hundred times all the way through. However, I knew this one would be different for some reason. I had heard something about the two (Joy and John Paul, I believe) having been broken up for a while. When I had heard this, I was crushed, because I seriously love their music and lyrics and especially their sound. There is really no one that sound like them—that I have heard. I mean, you get all the hippity hoppity pop stuff. And I will listen to that for a while when I am feeling down or I need to get through some all-nighter kind of thing. But you know how pop songs and pop stations are. The stations play the same four songs over and over until you are at the point where you can’t tell the difference between “Oh! It’s this song! I like this song!” and “Oh, I don’t like this song, they just play it too much and it’s branded into my brain.” And pop songs—don’t get me wrong, there are a few I enjoy—are all basically the same.

Long story short, I like folk music.

I like country music.

I like classical vocal type music.

It’s just how I am.

Anyway, I was disappointed because I thought that there would be no more new music. But at the end of that article, I had read something about a second album. I flew to their site, and there it was on the homepage. There WAS going to be a second one. I was super excited! Sure, the wait, at the time, was a very long one, but it was worth it.

The album, and I have only listened to it all the way through twice, is amazing. They have a slight different technique this time around. Some of the songs have a little bit of a beat/pop thing to them. Like “Dust to Dust” for example. Some of their lyrics are somewhat sad, but those songs are just as amazing as all the others. They never cease to amaze me. My favorites at the moment are “Tell Mama,” “Devil’s Backbone,” (it’s got that sound that Barton Hollow and Tornado by Little Big Town have, which I think is awesome) and “Oh Henry.”

My way of listening to albums is a strange one, but I find that it works. First, I will listen to the album all the way through. Then, I will listen to it again while I read all of the lyrics to every song. As the days go on, I will listen to the album over and over, refusing to listen to anything else but it until I know all the names of every song, all the words to every song, and then, the order they go in. I usually do this while I write or draw or something. Even if I am not paying attention to the music, and it’s on, it will somehow get into my head.

Sometimes I will silence people just to hear a song! For example, this afternoon, I heard a familiar song on the radio. It was “Friday Night.” Not to be confused with Katy Perri’s “Last Friday Night.” They are totally different songs, people! It’s a grand song and all, very fast paced and difficult to sing for some. The thing that bothered   me the most was, it was NOT Lady Antebellum singing it. And I was like, WHO IS THIS? THIS IS LADY A’S SONG! The song is on their “Own the Night” album.  I crash into the kitchen disgusted—granted, the guy who was doing it did it VERY well, BUT THAT IS NOT THE POINT—and stopped in the doorway to listen. After I demand what the heck it was, my mother says, “I know this isn’t Lady Antebellum.” My response being: “THEN WHO IS IT?”

I instantly get my brother to look it up on the computer, and it is actually a man—I believe he is a songwriter—called Eric Paslay. He co-writes songs for other country singers like Jake Owen and The Eli Young Band. He did that song as an album cut. And album cut, my friends, is a song that did not make it as a single. By my experience, they don’t play songs on the radio that aren’t singles. That’s my opinion anyway.

So, “Friday Night” was not one of Lady A’s singles. The singles on that album were, “Own the Night,” “Just a Kiss,” “Dancing Away with My Heart,” and “Wanted You More.” The music video for “Wanted You More” disappointed me. The beginning was really cool, with the animation and the colors, but it took an unforgiving turn. I mean (and please let me rant for a moment) there are lots of CLEAN music videos out there that are perfectly awesome. Lady A’s music videos really didn’t have a history of being like that, so I thought it would be okay. Anyway, I am not going to ruin this post with lines and lines of how I wish the video was cleaner. Can’t have everything, right?

 That’s about it.

I am working on a Merlin post, so that will be fun. The cast of that show are so cute!

RETURNED I HAVE!

Hello, I am back. I am sorry for the lack of posts, but somehow, I just haven’t been in the mood to blog. I haven’t been on the computer much at all. I joined a summer reading program (2 actually) at the library and I have been, you guessed it, reading.

Besides that, I have been writing like, all the time. I have been trying to get somewhere in my character development and plot. It’s hard when I am trying to drive the plot when there is really no villain. I mean, he began as a villain type, but I decided against it. I don’t know how mentally stable he is going to be, but everything he does, he believes that it is good. So, I don’t think that’s really being a villain so to speak.

I have been staying up until midnight working on these types of things. I listen to the soundtrack The Phantom of the Opera until I know every pitch and every word. I have gotten pretty good at “Think of Me” in both ways that it was sung: with Carlotta and her soprano and accent and then with Christine and her high notes and softer, less overpowering voice. I love The Phantom of the Opera. It was pretty late when I first saw it. It was on a PBS station, the Broadway performance. It started at 10pm and I was up pretty late watching it. I thought it was amazing. So, after months pass and such, my sister gets the movie version from the library. I watched that twice.  The Phantom is portrayed by Gerard Butler, I believe. And I am still thinking whether Raoul’s actor sung better than Gerard…I don’t know yet.

Yeah, it is a little creepy, the whole thing, but I think it’s awesome. If you listen to the lyrics real close-like, you get a better picture of the Phantom and what he is trying to get. I read a comment on the internet somewhere that it was a bit, uh…stalkerish, I think that’s what it said. Yeah, maybe, but not in a creepy, "I look at your Facebook page every 6 minutes creepy." That was an example…I don’t really know anyone that does that, and I myself is not on the Book of Faces…so…

It’s a different kind of stalking. One brought on by loneliness and love and a tortured childhood.

So there.

I also have been listening to other things, like different movie soundtracks and just music in general. I have been trying to listen to a wide range of music. I found out today that there is like a secret, non-existent track 13 on One Republic’s Dreaming Out Loud album. It’s basically just a jazzed up version of track 4, Apologize.

I have listened to The Hunger Games soundtrack, and that was pretty good. All of the songs just screamed Panem, District 12, the Games…everything. And the Civil Wars are on there, so really, that's a no brainer. The only one I didn't really like—and that’s mostly because I am not into the beat box, rock and roll, blow your eardrums out music—was The Ruler and The Killer by Kid Cudi. I liked the Maroon 5 song on the album, Come Away to the Water. That was cool.

I have also been trying out stuff like Jason Mraz and Owl City. I couldn't believe how much I was digging Owl City’s All Things Bright and Beautiful album. That was amazing! I wanted to dance so badly!! :D Out of the Jason Mraz stuff, I have only listened to Love is a Four Lettered Word. That was a good album.

Yeah.

That’s about it.

I finished reading “The Looking Glass Wars” and I have found out that there is a screenplay in the works for

it. SO YAY! It was a really good book. Really good.

Falling.

I have had a song stuck in my head for days now. It is called, "Falling." By none other than The Civil Wars. I know, I have been a little obsessed with them lately...So, maybe if I post the video and lyrics, it will be out of my head. I doubt it. Highly.

Haven't you seen me sleepwalking,
'Cause I've been holding your hand
Haven't you noticed me drifting
Oh let me tell you I am
Tell me it's nothing
Try to convince me
That I'm not drowning
Ooh let me tell you I am
Please, please tell me you know
I've got to let you go
I can't help falling
Out of love with you, ooh
Why I am feeling so guilty
Why I am holding my breath
I'm worried 'bout everyone but me
And I just keep losing myself
Tell me it's nothing
And try to convince me
That I'm not drowning
Oh let me tell you I am
Please, please tell me you know
I've got to let you go
I can't help falling out of love
With you
Oh, won't you read my mind
Don't you let me lie here
And die here
Oh, please, please tell me you know
I've got to let you go
I can't help falling
Out of love with you
With you, oh
Haven't you noticed
I'm sleepwalking

There we go. That should do it.

I think that if I could ever get myself to learn the guitar, this would be the first song I would learn. Oh heck, I would learn the whole album first. It is a change from posting about Thorin. So that's good...I think.

Speaking of Thorin, since Merlin is ending, my sister and I were in search of a new BBC drama. We looked at things such as Doctor Who, Sherlock--sister freaked when she saw the trailer because she read the book and it was just like it (I was just confused because Martin Freeman was there...and I was like, Bilbo? Why are you Watson?? Where are the Dwarves?)--and Robin Hood. I think in the end, we decided on Robin Hood first. I was scrolling down on the cast list on IMDB and a name struck me as familiar.

It was Richard Armitage.

This guy.

And I was like, isn't that Thorin?

There I go again...

Whatever.

Your argument is invalid...

But I was right, anyway, so that's all that matters.

So, I stepped back and said, "We are watching that."

Enough said.

He's even kinda majestic without being Oakenshield....

Whatever.

I must go get my sanity back.
Maybe.
It's way too hot outside to be sane.

♫THEY CAAAMMMMEEEEE♫

SO! Last week, around Wednesday, I ordered two cd's from Amazon.

After a week and a half of waiting...

AND WAITING...

AND WAITING...

AND SITTING BY THE MAILBOX JUST WAITING...

It came.

So what did I order, you ask? Well, after getting The Civil Wars album from the library, I listened to it about 7 times all the way through in the two weeks I had it. That is what I got today. And if I am reading the correct sources...THEY ARE COMING OUT WITH A SECOND ALBUM!!~insert fangirl squeal here~ I cannot wait! Cannot wait...cannot wait...

The other thing I got was The Lumineers album. I loved "Ho Hey" so I bought the album. Makes sense. Totally. Hopefully the album in itself is as amazing as the single. :)

In other news: I saw a man today that looked like Hayao Miyazaki. Then I texted my sister about it. But I doubt it was him. I don't think he would have any good reason to be here in the northeast...Unless he was coming to visit me...

                                                                               YES.
I also finished painting my brothers room. And I am now currently watching Merlin. Yes, it's back on the SYFY channel. I could cry with happiness.

I should be returning...

I'll come out and say it, I don't really have a good post title. There.

Okay. Due to internet problems--and my own constant laziness, I haven't been doing much blogging. But I was reading all day yesterday, basically, so I was doing something.

So today's post is going to be different than what I have been previously posting. That meaning: it will probably be full of music videos and maybe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I really don't know.

This song is called "The Bells of New York City." It by Josh Groban. I few weeks ago, I got the "Illumintaions" album from the library. I know that it was an earlier one, but I am not sure what year. Anyway, this was my favorite song from it besides, "War at Home."

I like the part of War at Home when he gets to the chorus, the vocals are awesome! The lyrics, if I can remember correctly are these: "You see these hands they're bruised and brown."

Now this is the lyric video for a song called "Poison and Wine" by my new favorite duo ever, The Civil Wars. Why don't I post the official video? Well,  it's a fine video--I check mostly every video before I post it, ya know, try to keep this blog mostly G-rated--but when I posted it, it landed on a... weird spot. SO! If you want to see it, it's in this link. It's a fine video, as I said before. I was hoping that they would do a video like this one. I like the simpler ones with the piano and guitar. It's so much better than what an acted something or another would be.

Maybe one of the facts here is that I cannot play the piano or guitar...even thought I REALLY WANT TOO. Hah. I do have a guitar...but my fingers weren't made for fretting. That's what my mind is for. :D (See, that was a joke.)

Then it's like, "you really gotta get better with the jokes, Mutant."

"I'm laughing on the inside."

I will give a medal to whoever gets that reference.

Okay, so, it's a theoretical medal.

Fine, it was Molly Mahoney and Henry in "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium."

Awesome movie...

Anyway, I went off track there.

Isn't funny that Word will spell-check Aragorn, but it doesn't spell-check Bilbo Baggins? I thought it was funny.

Again, I went of track.

Bad girl. Bad. ~smack~

Then there was this certain thing I wanted to post because I thought it was incredibly epic. Now, I am not so much into pop/rock music and the like, but I am open to any kind of music. The song in this music video totally worked with the whole theme of the show and whoever made this video did a stupid awesome job. I have never seen movement and music combined so well...

I found it on a blog that I think I have posted before. (BTW this is the site.) So, this is what he had to say about it.

I was beyond impressed. Radioactive is the type of song that really gets your adrenaline rushing and the message within really compares well with The Legend of Korra’s storyline. All the sound effects and animation clips fit together well and it looked like the creator really put a lot of time and effort into it.
What he was talking about was a little thing called Legend of Korra AMV (Radioactive).

When I saw this the first time, I kinda chilled over. You know, like you do, when something is completely and utterly awesome. Then, when it was over, and I could talk again, I declared that I was going to blog it.

And I will continue to sing this song for the rest of the day.

I don't know. I love Legend of Korra...so this is just as epic as anything could get.

Man, it's awesome. I think I have watched it 7 times, maybe?

Well, I think that does it for this post.

I shall be back.

Have an awesome day.

A "The Voice" funny.

So, as I said earlier, I like to watch The Voice because I like to watch the judges go back and forth at each other. This Monday's episode was especially funny. I laughed SO hard.

I don't like the song quite much, but watch it to the bitter end. *-* LOL
